The Martial Arts Union and Fitness Coach Union: New and existing member Instructors will automatically qualify for help and support from the MAU or FCU. Issues sometimes arise due to pay, insurance misunderstandings, hall hirers who have been misinformed by other organisations and more besides.
Whom does it cover? The Chief Instructor Member, any Instructor Member of MAFC, Personal Fitness Trainers, Gym Trainers and Instructor Members who may be classed as ‘Freelance’; e.g. Pilates, Yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi for Health, Taijiquan, etc.
What Does It Do? As an instructor to the public you may run into various difficulties. This may be due to the hall hirer, for example, who may have been mislead by another organisation that if you are not a part of that organisation you can not be allowed to hire a room. This is a common example which MAFC has dealt with in the past and rectified. Other problems which may befall the instructor such as unfair dismissal (through Freelance work) might also be helped or even avoided.
Insurance and Assurance. Many instructors in this day and age still do not realise the importance of insurance. For example, the Professional Liability insurance covers you for “what you tell people to do” -Instruction - but also covers things such as slander and libel. Having a Union behind the insured person can help you to avoid or correct problems that are either connected with your insurance or not. How would you cope with loss of income if a hall hirer or gym manager suddenly dismissed you and your group in favour of another, without good cause?
MAU will advise its members on varying issues and difficulties. This may help solve the problem. If it does not and you need further advice, legal backing or other specialist help then we will do our best to get you into the right place, talking to the right people and getting back on track again.
